There is a British saying that fire is a good servant but a bad master. Unfortunately, with climate change, fires are becoming masters more than servants. These fires have severe consequences for the air, the earth and those who roam it. And this is not the last fire we will endure.
Previously, the heat in 2019 was heat that would only occur every 360 years, but now it will occur every eight years.

According to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, the designated Health and Safety manager of a business has a duty to manage the health and safety risks. The regulations of managing risks to health and safety are as follows;
- A duty holder must identify the reasonably foreseeable hazards to health and safety
- Eliminate such risks as far as reasonably practical
- If the duty holder is unable to eliminate these risks entirely, the risks must be reduced as far as reasonably practical, and take the following steps
– Employ risk control measures in accordance with clause 36 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011
– Employ one or more of the following
• Entirely or partly susbstituting the risks with something that holds less risk
• Removing the hazard from possible exposure to people
• Employing engineering controls
- Should the hazard remain, the duty holder should implement administrative controls
- Should the hazard remain, the duty holder must provide suitable personal protective equipment for employees
- These control measures must be maintained through frequent review ensuring that it remains;
– Fit for purpose
– Suitable for the duration and nature of the work of each employee of the company
– Installed, set up and implemented correctly
